Law enforcers push smartphone makers to add anti-theft 'killswitch' by 2014 - Jun. 13, 2013:

Maybe you haven't heard that big time theft is starting to occur with smartphones. If you don't have one, and can't afford one, there is a lucrative business in the theft of smartphones.

This is a crime on the rise, and the smartphone community is coming to the rescue. It's a kill switch, a command issued to a device, presumably issued by the original owner, to render a piece of sensitive electronic equipment like an iPhone or Android device to a useless piece of plastic or metal.

Will this put a stop to all of rash of crime involving the theft (both strong arm and other wise) of very expensive phones that has taken on a life of it's own.
