Moyer is looking for answers

Jamie is looking to solve pitching puzzle this photo from May 10 2009
c. Rich Baxter 2009

Jamie Moyer spent the better part of a half hour throwing on Sunday afternoon, trying to figure out what he should improve upon on his next outting which will be a nationally televised game on ESPN on Wednesday.

He will face Randy Wolf who has a great 2.95 era for the Dodgers this season.

Phils have day off Monday - Series at home with LA on Tueday

The Phillies have a day off today, they start their series with LA at CBP on Tuesday. Join us right here on the website at Phillywebcast for this week's edition of Philly Sports Talk on Tuesday night at 6:30 pm -

Whatever was and has been wrong with Phillies pitching has to be corrected really soon, or this could be a really long season of frustration if the Phils continue on this path of pitching that they have been on so far. Chan Ho Park gets the ball on Tuesday night against his old team. The Phillies should get it together and go out there and support Park with all the offense he needs.

Wednesday night, a pitcher that really no team wanted found a home with the Dodgers again, none other than former Phillies pitcher, Randy Wolf. Wolf has found his old form again and he is currently sporting a 2.95 era with a 1-1 record. He will oppose Jamie Moyer who is searching for the cause of his troubles the last time out. I watched him talk to pitching coach Rich Dubee today at the pregame warm ups. Moyer seemed to be concerned with his delivery of his pitches and his release point. We'll see if he has found out the correction for this on Wednesday night. This Wed. game will be an ESPN game as well with a 7:05 pm start.

Thursday afternoon will be the marquee matchup of the series with Cole Hamels going for the Phillies and Chad Billingsley going for the Dodgers. Billingsley has been on fire and he already has a 5-1 record with a 2.45 era. The Phillies would love to have any starter with that low of an era that is for sure. What happened to the starting pitching on this staff? They rank last in almost all catagories in the National League. The whole season so far the team only has 9 quality starts and that is last in the NL as well.

Our show is interactive, you can call in via your computer or just over the phone. Tune in this week!

NY Mets strike first and catch Phils napping

The Phillies were looking to get off on a good foot with this series tonight with the Mets. The stage was set for a series that a lot of people were looking forward to see. Phillies starter Chan Ho Park looked younger with his haircut real short, but he didn't quite pitch like he did when he was younger tonight. Chan Ho constantly fell behind in the count with batters, he pitched just 4.2 innings and gave up 8 hits and 7 earned runs before he was done for the night. Chan finished tonight with 6 walks as well as only one strikeout, and his era is now 7.77. Could this be why he no longer earned the spot in the Dodgers rotation and was a relief pitcher for them? Chan Ho is starting his 16th season as an MLB pitcher, he started out when he was 21 in 1994. He also was sent down to the minors in 2007 after losing his stuff with Texas. He is not the same guy we remember in the early 2000's with the LA Dodgers. He is one of the few Asian pitchers the Phillies have had in the last 20 years, Chan really got the boos tonight down at the ballpark, and that's not a good thing.

The Phillies did have some life in the offense, they looked like they were coming back, as they've had to do all too much already this year. They can not keep coming back like this all year because of poor pitching. If the Phillies are to have a chance of getting to the playoffs this year, something will have to be done really quick about this situation. Ruben Amaro Jr must be feeling the pressure of this rotation. The Phillies record doesn't show the full results of all the bad pitching they been dealing with. It's amazing that they are still above .500 with these kind of performances.

Games 2 and 3 of this series looks a bit on the dubious side with rain forecasted all weekend. Will they even be able to play all the games of this series in Philly remains to be seen. The fickle fans will start demanding better soon with the vocal booing and constant comments in the newspapers and radio if things keep going like this. Amaro can only cross his fingers and start planning.
