Phillies all set except for Howard

Big money Howard, will he catch the wrath of Phillies fans?

The Phillies all were quickly resigned, most with nice raises over last season. The lone holdout has been Ryan Howard. Howard is seeking a salary into the stratosphere with an $18 million dollar demand. If we figure out how much he'll get per strikeout from last year, it equals to $90,452 per strikeout ... if he gets his $18 million dollars.

Everyone I've spoken to doesn't like the idea of paying Ryan all that much to play like he has been playing. Anyone who doesn't care about what they pay players on the team obviously doesn't care about the team that much and probably doesn't buy tickets. A local sports writer in the Daily News for Philadelphia wrote a column, "Who cares what we pay sports stars?" - if you're a fan of the team I think the answer should be, me!

The Phillies front office says there is no 'contention' between both sides. If there's no contention then why not just pay it I say? What's $4 million between friends?......

Philly Sports Talk Now! show - Eagles crush Giants and our Phillies preview for '09

Fly Eagles Fly … welcome to the sports show for Philly sports fans this is Philly Sports Talk Now! For Jan 11, 2009 , I am Rich Baxter and I am joined by my co-host and good friend Mr. James Jimmy Dogg, how about those Eagles , Jimmy?

Also joining us on this show is Mike Berquist from “A Citizen’s Blog” for our big Phillies preview. Mike is back to blogging coming in March 2009 and we can’t be more happy to hear it, hear from Mike all about his plans on our show!

Some stats from today’s Eagles game:

Eagles win 23-11 over the Giants in the Meadowlands

McNabb 22-40 with two touchdowns and 217 yards

Next game 3 pm next Sunday the 18th of January for the NFC Championship game in Arizona for the Cardinals vs The Eagles

5th NFC championship game in the last 8 years? Are we seeing a dynasty here? It may be towards the end of the dynasty but I am starting to think of the Eagles like I did the Minn. Vikings growing up in the 70’s with Fran Tarkington, it seemed like they were always there when it counted.

Jan 1 2009 - Happy New Year and MLB TV

The New Year always holds promise and thoughts for better times in the year to come. Phillies fans of course had a great year last year and still we hope to keep that going in '09. The team is essentially not too different from last year's team. The only difference is Pat Burrell is apparently not going to be on the team with the siging of Raul Ibanez. There is still some free agents out there, and perhaps the Phils still have a surprise move to still make before the start of the season.

One great thing for me this year is the arrival of MLB TV which is on Comcast channel 280 in the South Jersey area. I couldn't wait to see what they would offer and this morning I went downstairs and popped the TV on for the first time in the new year and I tuned right in to MLB TV. I felt like the time when I was a teenager that MTV first appeared on the television. There was an exciting feeling going through me as I watched the old highlights with the great plays that we've seen in the past couple years and the greatest plays ever that we haven't seen perhaps because we weren't around to see them. I know all this has been available on the internet for downloading and view over the MLB website, but this is different now that is on tv.

It's almost like having a little Baseball Hall of Fame on your tv, because they will be showing the old classic games and a lot of cool stuff outside of their great coverage they promise during the regular season.

Again Happy New Year to the readers of my blogs at fightinphillies.com and on phillywebcast.com!
