McCarthy too negative towards the Phillies

Negativity

I've heard it too many times this year already. Tom McCarthy announcing tonight as Rollins tries to score an amazing 'inside the park' homerun, McCarthy totally diminishing the effort by Rollins in a run that was really exciting and saying 'The Phillies are nursing a three run lead' after it was over. This is totally not what Phillies fans need to hear from their own announcer! He may as well be working for the other team with comments like this.

McCarthy is no Wheels or Kalas they would have announced this play with much more enthusiasm, if we have to listen to McCarthy with his whining about everything, I just may have to turn the volume down when he is on the TV! I used to like McCarthy when we used to work for the Phillies years ago, but now he sounds more like he doesn't work for the Phillies at all. Come on, root for the team that pays you McCarthy!

Phillies take their 'funk' into Texas

Bring on the Rangers! The Phillies stroll down to Texas trailing along with them, one of the worst streaks of the year. Brett Myers looked to redeem himself as both he and Adam Eaton has been in a dog's race to see who is exactly is the worst Phillies pitcher.

The Phils played see saw, back and forth getting the lead and then giving it up just as fast. Is this the same team from a month ago? What happened to this team that looked like it was going to the World Series a few short weeks ago.

Join us for our next show on Philly Sports Talk Now! this Sunday evening with James 'Jimmy Dogg' Mulry and Rich Baxter as we tell you all about the losing streak and why.

Phillies try to recover out West

The Phillies dropped game 1 of their road trip out in Oakland to continue their slide into the second week. The Phillies have been on the losing end of games 6 times in a row now, but a stroke of luck finds them still in first place as the Marlins and Mets have also been losing when the Phillies do.

The Phillies used to do everything right, now they can do nothing right. They need to get down to basics, hit the ball and advance the runner. Hit, then move the runner is all they need to do. This team doesn't need a hero homerun every game, just get on base and concentrate on moving the runner forward. This is a good time to examine the basics, and the Phillies aren't getting the basics done.

There was talk about Charlie Manuel and what he doesn't do on Philly Sports radio stations today. These things get overlooked when a team is winning, but no Charlie is getting himself on the hot seat. He doesn't make many moves beyond the very obvious, and now the spotlight is on him to do his job. Remember when Charlie benched Rollins? Not a good move, maybe the whole team can be benched soon for not doing the basics. Ryan Howard needs to step up, get off the Gatorade and Powerade commercials and start thinking about baseball. He strikes out far too much and doesn't produce in the clutch. This may sound crazy, but dangle Ryan out on the market and let's see if we have get a Roy Oswalt or someone like him in return. The Phillies don't have what it takes to give Howard the moon, which is what he's going to want as his contract really soon. Why not move him now to a team like the Astros that may be able to give us that 15-20 game winner, even though Oswalt isn't doing that great so far, it just could be the young team he has built around him.

I've seen Bobby Abreu get traded for next to no one, and all too often this happens to the Phillies. We have some trade bait, if it's Howard, let's toss him out there and see what he'll catch. He's a player that has some impressive stats but I think he doesn't help a club out when it's clutch time.

Phils vs Boston, a great series all tied up

We got a treat on the first game of the Boston Red Sox series vs. The Phillies. That juggernaut offense reared it's head again, Jimmy Rollins set the tempo with a lead off home run on Monday night in Philadelphia and the Phillies never looked back.

Superb pitching from Cole Hamels and non-stop offense from Ryan Howard with two home runs buried the Red Sox before they had to chance to know what hit them. This will be on of their highlight games of the year for sure.

Jamie Moyer came out and gave a great effort on Tuesday night, but Boston would not be denied and rallied for the victory as the Phillies couldn't keep the offense going on Tuesday night.

Listen to the next edition of Philly Sports Talk Now with Rich and Jim as we talk about the series on Show 92!

Show 91- Philly Sports Talk Now!

Jimmy is off this week, and the short show is hosted by Rich. On this show, Rich talks about the time capsule that was reburied in Citizen's Bank Park. Some new items were added to the time capsule from this season.

A wacky race in the AL, none of the teams who were supposed to be winners are so far very disappointing. We go take a look at one of my favorite Phillies blogs called, "A Citizen's Blog".

Rollins miscue not a sin!

Jimmy Rollins well publicized benching the other day was a real joke. Rollins hit a high fly up to deep short, which 98.9 times out of 100 is an out, that would have been the third out. Rollins looked dejected as he lurched off towards first and didn't make it much past first base after the ball was dropped.

Charlie Manuel, the Phillies manager, felt it necessary to take Rollins out of the game in a very public spanking of Rollins in public. This went way too far. Rollins was last year's NL MVP, Rollins deserved a lot better from Manuel. If anything Manuel could have taken him in the office after the game and talked to Rollins. No one really would have noticed this. Just as no one really noticed Jimmy not advancing more than first base on the dropped fly.

If I had a dollar for everytime I though Manuel's moves can be dead wrong, I'd be very rich by now. The Phillies are winning right now, and Manuel is enjoying basking in the sunlight of the winning streak. He's no Dallas Green, he's no Tom Lasorda, and he's not even close to being a really great manager in my opinion.

Rollins is one of the most under appreciated players in the league by not only the Phillies but even the media. He didn't deserve this, I've seen many plays that were worse by Philly players and nothing was done that was so obvious as this. Manuel was wrong, and he better start understanding that Rollins is putting all those feathers in his cap not only this season but previous one's of course.

Is 'The Boss' mad? Loose pockets in the AL

The NY Yankees are the most spoiled bunch of high paid superstars that has ever been assembled. Why in the world would Boss Steinbrenner pay so much for all those high paid 'regular star' players that together can't seem to put a decent win streak together. Thank god we're Phillies fans!

The NY Yankees infield has a higher salary than the whole teams of the Tampa Rays, and the Florida Marlins combined. The Rays have a $44 million and the Florida Marlins have a salary of $22 million for the whole team rounded off. Alex Rodriguez is making $28 million by himself alone this season. What is the hell is wrong with George Steinbrenner. He has got to be the nominee for the horse's ass award of not only this year, but the past couple as well.

Rodriguez may be a future Hall of Famer, but he is the most overpaid and under producing player in the MLB and not worth $28 million this year.

George Steinbrenner would be booed out of town in Philadelphia if he owned the Phillies and did this to the fans, I can't believe the Yankee faithful haven't shamed him into selling the franchise yet.

Yankees current standing: 28-29 - 7 games back in the AL East
