We talk Spirits in Baseball... the Ghostly happenings with Dan Gordon

Show 78 - of Philly Sports Talk Now! is now available! Listen to our special "Haunted Baseball" edition with our special guest Dan Gordon. Our show was preempted by some 'ghostly' happenings, something that's never happened on our show but we soldiered on and it turned out to be one of our best shows yet.

Hear all about Jim Thome's run in with what some players and him think was a ghostly happening in Cleveland. We talk about Yankee Stadium, with all of it's ghostly happenings over the years. Find out some of the most 'haunted' stadiums in the USA, Dan tells us that he and his co-author Mickey Bradley have a sequel in the works.

All this and more with some Roger Clemens FBI investigation, can he be months away from a prison sentence? We kind of think so, he and Barry Bonds seemed to have lied to an official investigation.

Phillies thump Reds, Dan Gordon tonight on the show

Ah, Spring is here... Maybe not on the calendar but now that the Spring Training season has started it really seems a little brighter to me. The Phillies came out swinging for their first official Spring Training game. The lesser known stars of the team came through this time, Greg Dobbs raised his stock price with a nice game he had.

The first exhibition game against the Florida State Seminoles was cancelled due to rain on the previous day, but the Phil's Spring Training schedule is underway.

Join us tonight for author, Dan Gordon who along with his co-author Mickey Bradley authored a book on ghosts in baseball. Modern stories of players who have seen or believe in ghosts. It should be interesting to talk to Dan because the book is really great.

Phillies Ballgirl Sam on the show Wednesday night

We would like to invite you to our next show on Philly Sports Talk Now! for our live interview with 'Sam' a talented Phillies ballgirl. We will talk about what inspired her to want to be a ballgirl, and more!

By tomorrow night, we should know the fate of Ryan Howard's arbitration hearing. Some people say give him the money, some not. I am one of the one's that say, not! Players get paid in the Major Leagues very well, usually it's more of a time thing. Howard should have gladly accepted $7 million this year and played his tail off knowing that his bigger payday would be due. Is it me or is there something wrong with not wanting $7 million bucks to play baseball for a year? Howard is no where near the player Puljols is and he shouldn't be compared to him money wise. 199 strikeouts last year is enough to warrant some serious consideration. One in three at bats over the current career numbers is a strikeout. Don't believe the hype, if Ryan gets $10M then Rollins should get $15M for his service, hustle and being the MVP last year. These younger players should just wait a while before they go up to the poker table and want to walk away with all of the chips!

Howard may get $7M Wednesday, but we'll have a Phillies Ballgirl: Priceless!

That's right, Ryan Howard's unwillingness to sign for $7M will lead to arbitration on Wednesday, he rolls the dice and I don't think he's going to be successful. All that aside on our next show, we're going to have someone that is priceless on our next show, a member of the Phillies ballgirl crew, Sam!

We're going to talk about how cool it is to be out there on the field, when the Phillies are playing at Citizen's Bank Park. So tune into our next show as we roll on towards the start of the Phillies season with our very special guest from the Phillies Ballgirls crew.

Be at our site here on Wednesday night at 6:45 pm to hear the show at www.phillywebcast.com, or go to www.talkshoe.com and connect to our show from there.

493 reasons why Ryan Howard doesn't get $10 million

The headline may sound a little harsh. 493 is the number of strikeouts that Ryan Howard has in his young but productive major league career. Considering the fact that Howard has been up to bat 1461 times total is the benchmark I am using to say that even though he hits homeruns, his strikeout rate is phenomenal. One out of every three bats is a strikeout. That is too much, much to much.

He had a banner couple of years to start out, and I don't want to diminish that. The awards are great as an individual. Team play is something else. I want Howard to cut down on the stikeouts and get on base more. Is he worth the $10 million now, not in my opinion. He will get a windfall when he is eligible for free agency that is for sure. Will he stay in Philly when he is eligible? Probably not, he will follow the dollar bill where they are stacked the highest. That is what players do this day and age, no allegiance to a team, they just want to get what they can get and fill their bank accounts with money.

The longball is great, everyone loves a homerun. In the long run though 200 strikeouts by one player is too much. It can be the difference between winning and losing games. Time will tell if Howard gets his way, but for my money he should become a better all around player and get on base more!

We'll talk about this more on our next upcoming shows, join in if you want your voice heard on this!
