Utley remains the best Phil!

Utley is remaining the hottest hitting Phillie leading up to the All Star break. The Phils lose ugly in Cleveland tonight on June 18th though behind Cole Hamels 10-1. So it's back to the drawing board for now... It looks like the winning streak is over for now. Here's a photo I took of Chase earlier in the year. Phillies sweep up the Sox!

The Phillies are on a roll of sorts. They've been beset with serious injuries to some of their key pitchers and they still are coming through with the wins! Today, they swept the Sox at home with a business person's special that saw former Sox player Aaron Rowand come through with a grand slam against his old team to seal the Phillies victory. It must have been a bitter sweet moment for Aaron as he circled the bases knowing that he put some nails in the coffin of his 'old' team.

The ballpark was loaded with 42,000 plus for the afternoon game and all the Phils fans left the park happy. The Phillies are on a perch sitting 2.5 games off the lead of the Mets who themselves have had many problems in their last couple of games. Just 2 weeks ago this looked impossible with the radio airwaves of the local sports stations full of fans who were throwing in the towel. They might want to go and get that towel out of the trash can, because we have a race in the NL East now! Interleague play couldn't have come at a better time for the Phillies and neither could be the timing of their current win streak. Detroit comes to town for three games starting Friday and that team has been playing a lot better then the White Sox, and should be a better test of the Phillies.

Our podcast was postponed for tonight, we are going to try to get one in for this week, but if not we will be back with another podcast next week. Jim Dogg and I have a lot of great Phillies talk stored up with this win streak so we can't wait till the next broadcast. If you haven't listened to our last podcast, be sure to listen in and hear our conversation with the San Francisco based blog called, "Across the Seams," and it's owner Marty Cortinas, (who is also a successful book author on computers, and online poker playing!) as we talk about Barry Bonds, the new phenom pitcher for San Francisco Tim Lincecum, and more! We are also available for download on iTunes as well, so sign up to get all our podcasts!

Meade's MySky Personal Sky Exploration

One of my favorite hobbies outside of watching Phillies baseball is looking out over the summer sky at night observing stars, the moon, and some constallations. Meade has been a leader in the field of observing the solar system with neat telescopes, binoculars, and other neat electronic devices. They have developed a new handheld device called the MySky that has a database of over 30,000 objects in space including, stars, planets, constallations, and galaxies. This device will take the guessing out of what you are looking for in the night sky and will identify all the celestrial bodies that make up the night sky! Imagine a hand held unit that locates and identifies what you are looking for in the night sky and the new MySky Exploration guide will show you on it's incredible LCD screen in full color!

Whether you are a casual fan of astronomy or student who wants to know more about browsing the night sky, the Meade MySky is the device you need, before this nifty gadget came along it took a lot of learning to identify different celestrial bodies! Now it's all done for you with the handheld unit, about the size of a cordless screwdriver! If your like me you'll go out after watching your favorite Phillies game and take in the night sky a while, take one of these MySky's out and you'll have a better knowledge of the sky and where certain constellations and arrangements of the stars and planets are around you! It's just that easy.

Don't miss the Police on Tour, or their new CD!

Win a New York fly-away to see The Police live.

Philadelphia has always been a great city for the band, The Police. The Police have reformed and joined together for a tour that is currently weaving through the USA and around the world, and will be in Philadelphia on July 19th at Citizens Bank Park. I first saw The Police in Atlantic City at the famous Boardwalk Hall back in 1983. In the early 80's the band owned the airwaves of radio and Sting, who is the lead singer of the band, became a household name. My favorite memories of the band was waiting for each new album, yes! I said a record, to come out! They improved with every release and a lot of their music was made up from the bands' love of reggae music. They influenced a lot of rock acts that followed their raw sound and even some of the real early music of the Police was derived from the punk rock era itself.

The Police have released a new compilation cd that give you all of the songs that made the band one of the biggest rock bands ever. It is well worth a purchase to get all of these hits from such a great band. My favorite Police song would have to be Roxanne. When I was in high school back in 1981-1982 I had a crush on a young lady that worked in the computer office that our class room was adjacent to. I decided that I would ask her out on a date. Her name was Roxanne, and everyone in that school was after her for a date. She had graduated a year before me, and now worked for the school that I went to, and in the end we did go out and it was really my first and perhaps most beautiful girl I have ever dated. The song by The Police named Roxanne was one of the biggest songs of that time, so naturally everytime I heard the song I thought of my 'Roxanne' and I still do to this day!

It is so great to hear The Police on this new compliation cd that they have released and it is great to hear that they have reformed for a World Tour that will be in the Philadelphia area in July and around the world all this year. Welcome back to the stages!

Phils admit it, the Mets in the drivers seat... Next Podcast Wednesday night!

Well it finally happened, after 6 weeks of seesawing back and forth between .500, the Phillies players have looked at the standings and have acknowledged that it's the Mets that the Phils need to chase. The Giants and the Phils ended up splitting the series 2-2 after some heroic plays and some hilarious plays. The rain on Sunday produced a errant throw from Pat Burrell that is sure to make the highlight reel for the 'funnies' plays of the MLB. Burrell reeled back to throw the ball and it went 15 feet straight up into the air as Burrell looked like a catcher throwing his mask off trying to find where the ball went.

Next up for the Phillies will be the buzzing NY Mets. The Mets will be ready for the Phils at home that is for sure. The Mets are 17-13 at home and a blistering 18-7 on the road. This is shaping up to be a great year for the Metropolitans, they are 35-20 with the season nearing the one third mark. I only wish the Phillies had that record, you wouldn't even be able to buy a ticket to a game because everyone would have Phillies fever!

The marquee match up of this series between the Mets and the Phillies will be the final game of the series with Cole Hamels facing John Maine. Freddie Garcia, who was largely booed on Sunday for his lackadaisical play, will pitch in KC next. Garcia looked slow motion on the mound on Sunday and he didn't even run out a ground out which prompted the fans to boo him throughout the stadium. He hit the ball slowly but only took 5-6 steps to first before he just stopped running. Excuse me but your being paid very well how about some more effort! The fans also gave him a serious amount of booing after he was taken out of the ballgame on Sunday. The Phils should trade Garcia in my opinion. The fans were giving him every opportunity to prove himself, but he just doesn't fit in. Get him outta here! As Harry Kalas would say....

Tune in after 10pm on Wednesday night for our next podcast for more of Philly Sports Talk Now!
